Update: this information was made redundant with the resumption of Tiktok operations, but bookmark it anyway as the ban has not yet been declared permanently lifted.
Despite being in Japan for a while now, Tiktok still banned my account. Presumably, because I set it up many years back, when I still lived in America.
I have done some research on it & was able to recover my Tiktok account access in a matter of hours so want to help as many people as possible recover their accounts using this information.
Who Is This Overseas Ban Affecting?
Firstly, I seem to be far from the only one this has happened to. I have seen others who have NEVER been in the U.S. losing access due to the U.S. ban, with people in Thailand, New Zealand & Australia taking to X & Reddit to seek help.

If you don’t have sentimental data on your old Tiktok account, many are reporting simply signing up for a new account is the fastest, easiest way to go about this. So just sign up again to create a new account & you should be good to go from there.
How to Get Back On Tiktok From Your New Country Using An Old Account
If you have a lot of sentimental data or are an influencer with a large following you don’t want to leave behind or otherwise do not wish to start a new account, you will have to contact support. There may be alternate methods, but I will outline the process I personally undertook step by step below.
1. First, Tap Learn More rather than Close App on the dreaded popup
2. This should take you to a screen where it says you can download your data. Tap the “Download Your Data” hyperlink to access your settings (sorry I didn’t get a screenshot of this part).
3. Once in Settings, scroll toward the bottom. Look for “Report A Problem” rather than Support. You may be able to get help from Support, but I wasn’t able to figure a way out of the chatbot to a real person, so I don’t recommend it.
4. Lastly, ignore everything on the lower part of the screen. Look for an icon in the UPPER RIGHT CORNER. If you haven’t submitted a report before, it will look like a notepad. If you have already submitted a report, it will look like this clock. This clock is also where you tap to review your report for updates once you have requested access to your account again. Once you tap it, you will be able to contact support directly to outline the exact details of your particular situation.
NOTE: Don’t just say “Please give me MY ACCOUNT back!” include your EXACT @ username. My support was slightly delayed because I made this mistake, causing some additional back & forth.
